J’ai hésité

J’ai promis de bloguer pour le Grand Maghreb en ce 1er juin. Mais bon, j’avoue que j’ai un peu hésité. Que nous apporterait cette union, qui est un réalité mais “seulement” sur papier depuis 1989, alors qu’on voit que Marocains et Algériens ont respectivement besoin de visa pour se rendre de part et d’autre de la frontière et que Monsieur Kaddafi s’amuse à demander à tous les pays de prôner un visa pour les visiteurs étrangers mis à part les tunisiens (à ce que j’ai compris).

J’ai aussi pensé aussi à ce qui s’est passé à la fin de l’année dernière avec cet incursion dans les dernières heures de 2006 d’un groupe de dangeureux criminels. Les frontières demeurent une passoire, que se passera-t-il avec une union à l’ “européenne” où les frontières seraient abolies ? Tous les individus seraient libres de passer d’un pays à l’autre.

Finalement, je ne suis pas tellement convaincu de cette union. Certes, mes arguments ne sont pas convaincants mais en cette journée, j’ai donné un simple avis : à l’heure actuelle, nous ne sommes pas prêts, cette union n’est pas pour arranger l’état du Grand Maghreb.

Visa for Libya

Libya is seriously studying imposing visas for anyone who wants to enter the country from now on. Even the countries of Maghreb and Egypt, which were exempted of this formality will have to fulfill it.

While Mr Salah Rajab, Libyan Interior minister, has announced it during the Arab Interior Ministers’ Meeting held in Tunis these days, the Foreign Minister Abderrahmen Shalgham refuted the decision has already been taken. He claimed that a law is on to be studied during the next weeks.

Libya explain this “reform” as a way to counter-attack organised criminality and avoiding the illegal immigration. During these days that coincide with the 18th anniversary of creation of Maghreb Arab Unity, Libya exhorted all other Arab countries to do the same, to empeach misusing the facilities of moving between them.

According to statistics, more than a million of strangers, especially from Subsaharian African countries, are living in Libya but more than a half of them is in illegal situation. The Libyan government has already asked anyone who do not have a legal buisness contract to leave the country before February 2007.

And for us, Tunisians, this is the end of Ras Jdir dream : crossing the border to have “shopping” in Libya and coming back without being disturbed - at least if you do not bring “prohibited” goods.
